RIBBON CUTTING MARKS OFFICIAL OPENING
"DAKOTA DUNES CASINO"
Whitecap Dakota First Nation, SK - A ribbon cutting ceremony to commemorate the opening of the
Dakota Dunes Casino was held today. The new entertainment attraction is located on the Whitecap
Dakota First Nation, south of Saskatoon on highway 21.
Participating in the ceremony were First Nations Elders, Whitecap Dakota First Nation Chief Darcy Bear,
Saskatoon Tribal Council Chief Joe Quewezance, Federation of Saskatchewan Indian Nations Chief
Lawrence Joseph, Federation of Saskatchewan Indian Nations Vice Chief Morley Watson, Hon. Deb
Higgins, Minister of Liquor & Gaming Authority, Dakota Dunes Casino General Manager Gary Daniels and
SIGA President & CEO Zane Hansen.
"As the operator of the Dakota Dunes Casino, SIGA is proud of the fact the project has been completed
within its $61 million dollar budget," said President and CEO Zane Hansen. "We look forward to
providing our own unique blend of traditional First Nations hospitality and service in this world class
casino.
The Dakota Dunes Casino features over 600 slot machines, 12 table games, as well as food and beverage
services. It will also offer a multi-function venue capable of hosting world class entertainment
performances. The new casino also employs over 400 full-time and part-time employees.
"The casino opens tomorrow (Friday, August 10) morning at 9 a.m." added Hansen.
SIGA continues to strengthen the lives of Saskatchewan and First Nations people through employment,
economic growth and community relations initiatives. SIGA operates casinos in Prince Albert, North
Battleford, Yorkton and on the White Bear First Nation near Carlyle. SIGA is also developing new casinos in
Swift Current and Yorkton. All SIGA casinos offer a distinctive First Nations gaming experience that reflects
the traditional aspects of First Nations heritage and hospitality.
